Our horrendous experience started on the phone with Joshua Haber. He promised the moon and worked hard to come up with a discount for their services. I walked room by room through the house while we were on the phone to tell him what we had for the quote. What confused me is that he kept asking about the number of boxes we had. We werent done packing so I had no idea how many boxes we would have. Not only that, the boxes we did have were all sizes. I told him what furniture we had in each room and what items we had in our sheds. The quote he ultimately gave me for our 2100 sq ft home with two sheds was $8938.
We had been promised 4 workers. Only 3 showed up and they were 2 hours late. They walked into our house, began speaking to each other in Russian and shaking their heads. The lead almost instantly told me that it was going to cost us A LOT more. An hour and a half went by and he said it would be more like $11,000.00. I was furious. We were closing on our house the next morning at 9am. Joshua knew that. I actually believe that is the point. The man said we could not pay and get someone else. Obviously, that was impossible. As I said, that was the point. They knew we had no choice. Because they were not adequately prepared in either manpower nor equipment, they had to come back the next day. Again, we closed at 9am. They did not show up until noon. I called Joshua Habers number several times and emailed him with no response. I called and talked to his boss who reminded me of some gangster in a movie whose job is to get rid of you. They did not finish loading until 4:30 in the afternoon. By that time, the new owners were already there. It would have been within there right to call the police as we did not own the home. At the last moment, the lead handed me a document that said they were adding even more to the bill. It ended up being $12,953.00.
The delivery was even worse. Once we set the delivery date, per the contract, they have up to ten days to deliver. I made several phone calls to Angel during that week attempting to get a definite date and time. She was unable to provide that. The eleventh day would have been a Monday. On the Friday before that, I received call from a Colorado 970 number stating their equipment had broken down and they were unsure when they would be able to repair it. I mentioned that Monday was the last day per contract. He his concern was his equipment. On Sunday, we had gone to a festival that was an hour and a half from our home. My daughter got a call that said they were ready for delivery. They were supposed to give us 24 hour notice. I called them and told them we werent home and they did not give us notice and that they would have to schedule for Monday. They said they would call the guy with the 970 number. I called back a half an hour later and they had not spoken to him but gave me the number. I was not able to get in touch with him immediately. When I did speak to him, he started by being exceptionally rude. I told him we were not home and had not been given notice. Eventually, after being unimaginable rude, he hung up on me. I called twice before he answered again. At that point, he started by calling me an f***ing b***h (which he said numerous time). He said he was going to throw our stuff in storage for 45 days just because he could do it. I told him I would contact a lawyer and that they could listen to him threatening because the phone was being recorded (the message when you call any Uptown number says the calls are recorded). He claimed it wasnt recorded. My daughter finally called him and pointed out that she was listed on their invoice as the recipient and had not been notified at all prior. They agreed we would drive back. The drivers called and said their equipment had broken down again. They didnt end up arriving until after dark in a snow storm. We were trying to mark things off as they unloaded it, but they would not put things in a manner that allowed us to do that. Ultimately, some items were broken and missing. We have no way of knowing how many things went missing because they do not check things off as they are delivered.
I concur with another complaint about Uptown they are every nightmare you have ever heard about moving companies. I intend to file a complaint with both state and federal agencies.
