Brian of U. Santini gave us an estimate to move our belongings from Brooklyn, NY to Doylestown, PA. About two weeks before the move, Brian returned and confirmed that the estimate was on target. He insisted that they would need only one truck, and he said the price would not change. This was based on the amount of goods we had in storage with Santini, and the furnishings he examined in our apartment. Once they got to our new house, the owner, Dan, tried to increase the price by $2,000. I asked why he wanted more money. Dan said they needed two trucks instead of one, and more men. I said that Brian had confirmed the price just two weeks prior, and that they knew in advance exactly how much they would need to move. I told him Brian had insisted they would need only one truck. Dan became verbally abusive, shouting that I could easily see that they would need two trucks. Dan said he didn't have to honor Brian's estimate or assurances because Brian doesn't own the company, he's just an employee. When I refused to pay any extra, Dan said the moving men would stay at my home until I agreed to pay. I threatened to call the police, because they were trespassing. When I mentioned the police, Dan backed down, and eventually agreed to the original price. However, he continued being verbally abusive. |
